HUMANE SOCIETY OF CENTRAL TEXAS PROVIDES FREE ADOPTION, SHELTER FACES CAPACITY
[WACO, TEXAS, NOV 10] — The Humane Society of Central Texas is offering free adoption until the end of November. The shelter is at capacity for surrendered animals and may have to turn to euthanization. The Humane Society of Central Texas is removing lengthy paperwork and invasive questions about housing and income to encourage the Waco Community to take in a pet.
Almost every animal at the Humane Society of Central Texas is available for fostering. As an HSCTX foster, medical and behavioral support for the animal will be provided.
“I know many people have been hit hard by the current economic downturn in our community and maybe can't afford to feed and take care of an animal, and that's why we are seeing more animals being surrendered,” Nate Langley, a longtime shelter volunteer, said. “But I just beg my friends and fellow Wacoans to find it in their hearts to take care of these precious creatures."
The Humane Society of Central Texas allows a trial period for people considering adoption. Fostering is a way to try out pet ownership without making a long-term commitment and provides a temporary home for an animal in need. HSCTX is looking for Waco residents to help all 165 dogs at the shelter find a home as quickly as possible.
According to Fox News, over one hundred new animals entered the shelter just last week alone, resulting in the shelter reaching capacity. Residents of Waco are being asked to not bring animals to HSCTX until an owner or home is found.
Pet Matchmakers are available for fosters and adoptions. The Pet Matchmakers at HSCTX match families based on energy and personality. They will bring individuals or families into a play yard to meet each animal that interests them. The Pet Matchmakers are experts in animal behavior and can assess which animals are a good match.
"We have been at capacity for three weeks now, and we are at the point where we need to appeal to the public to help,” Carol Barkely, executive director of the Humane Society of Central Texas, said. “If even just 200 people agreed to foster or adopt, we’d clear half the animals out of the shelter."
You can view all animals that need a home at The Humane Society of Central Texas Website and in person.
